Boxing Day is celebrated on December 26th each year, mainly in Commonwealth countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Coming right after Christmas, it was traditionally a day to give gifts to servants, service workers, and the poor. The term 'Boxing' comes from the Christmas boxes used to contain gifts. Modern Boxing Day has become an important shopping day, similar to America's 'Black Friday,' with stores holding massive post-holiday sales.

There are several theories about the origin of Boxing Day. One theory is that churches would collect donations in an 'alms box' on Christmas and distribute them to the poor on Boxing Day. Another theory is that wealthy families would give servants the day off and give them boxes containing gifts or bonuses (Christmas boxes) as thanks.
