Bailu Solar Term

White Dew (Bailu) is the 15th solar term among the 24 solar terms and the third solar term of autumn, occurring around September 7-8 when the sun reaches 165 degrees celestial longitude. The name "White Dew" derives from the increasingly thick morning dew at this time, which appears crystal clear and pure white under the morning sunlight. White Dew is an important solar term reflecting temperature changes in nature, characterized by the largest diurnal temperature difference among all 24 solar terms. During White Dew, the weather gradually turns cool, and in the early morning, many dew drops are found on the ground and leaves, formed by water vapor condensing at night. Ancient Chinese associated the four seasons with the five elements - autumn corresponds to metal, whose color is white, hence the autumn dew is described as white. After White Dew, yin energy gradually increases, morning dew becomes thicker, condensing into white water droplets, thus named White Dew. White Dew essentially ends the sultry summer heat, as weather gradually cools and cold generates dew, marking the turning point from hot to cool in autumn.
